John Trone and Mike Dennis own Klepper's Key Shop
in partnership. In the year 2000 Frank Bush informed
them that he wanted to retire and wished to sell the
Key Shop. Both John and Mike had worked for Klepper's
for quite a few years and were both Master Locksmiths.
After a great deal of thought the two agreed they would "take a chance" and buy the business from Frank.
So for the last two years John and Mike are the owners.
They have invested pretty heavily in upgrading the technology in the shop. They replaced the server, and several other computers. One of the things driving the changes is a heavy involvement in keyless entry and electronic access controls.

What Makes Klepper's the Key Shop for You?
Eighty two years ago in York Pennsylvania the
business was founded with an owner and two
employees. Only Fifty three years ago the Key
Shop was housed in a log cabin. Since then
through the present day the shop is housed on
East King Street near the center of Old York.
There are eight employees now and they go to job
sites in tool-laden vans instead of a Model T. The
key cutters are computer controlled now and
many of the best locks use magnetic cards
instead of keys to control access.
Yet one thing
has not changed in all those years, the skills,
education and commitment to deliver nothing but
the highest quality work, at a fair price and in a
timely manner.
Come on into the Key Shop, and
see their old-fashion work ethic combined with the
latest technologies and a high level of training
give their customers the best value for their dollar.
Quality of hardware, workmanship and craftsman-
ship are the watchwords here, and they combine
to make a bright future for this Customer-first
Company!
A Brief History of the ' Key Shop'
Charles E. Klepper grew up with a father who was a millwright and a locksmith, so perhaps it was natural that he founded Klepper's Key Shop in 1920. That shop was located on Cherry Lane in York close to College Avenue.
Fourteen years later he relocated the shop into a log cabin at Pershing and College Avenues. That log cabin is now located behind The Golden Plow Tavern at Market and Pershing.
Finally in 1949 the shop was moved to it's present location on East King Street. Two well loved employees who worked with Mr. Klepper for 49 years were Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Anderson. They operated the shop from Mr. Klepper's death June 2 , 1978 until it was sold in 1979.
The shop was purchased by Frank Busch who had retired from teaching at Dover High School. Frank ran the business for 20 years and then sold the shop
to two of his long time employees, John Trone and Mike Dennis. They purchased the business from Frank in March 2000.
Klepper's Key Shop has progressed from the days of Model T's to today's high tech computerized security key card systems. The present day owners have a strong commitment to maintaining a strong technical background with frequent training sessions and the purchase of more computers and other essential technical tools for today's challenges. Newer and more complex security systems, access control systems, and ID access control systems all make demands on the technical training of Klepper's employees. We are committed to maintain our skills and meet that challenge.
